Won a Backorder -- trouble pushing domain to my registar

I successfully backordered a domain from one of the common backorder services. They placed my domain with a registrar that I didn't have any experience with or know anything about.

Now I want to get that domain pushed to the registrar I use where I have all my domains registered.

This registrar is largely ignoring my requests. At this point, I can log into the domain to change whois info, DNS servers, but there is nothing available to push the domain. In the intro e-mail they sent me, they told me to create an account, which I did, but my domain is not showing in the account.

I have sent a help request to the backorder service to see if they can assist.

Can anyone offer my suggestions on how to proceed? I'll just feel so much better when I have this domain with the rest of my collection.

Persistence. Friendly way.

Phone calls.

Fax machine.

More phone calls, including call to drop service for assistance.

Having your registrar join the effort.

Letter advising intent to contact ICANN or the registrar that they are a reseller for.

Phone call asking to speak with department manager.

Letter from lawyer.

Phone call going up the chain of command, ask to speak with company president.

Letter advising lawsuit will be filed. Locate lawyer local to registrar's business address.

More helpful receiving registrar than current registrar.

Report to ICANN of violation of transfer rules.

I've pretty much done it all. Sometimes it takes awhile.

Check the terms of service you agreed to on the site with which made the original backorder. A lot of times they specify a holding period before you can transfer away.

If the domain's status is "ACTIVE" and you're shown as the Registrant/Admin contact (with an email address you control) then wait 60 days from registration and initiate a transfer at a registrar you know and like. The transfer will have to be allowed to go through under ICANN rules after 6-7 days... and you'll have total control over the domain.

The status is REGISTRAR-LOCK. I assume either I'd have to unlock it get the registrar to unlock it before I can initiate anything from my registrar where I have all my other domains.

Thanks for that option though. I'll have to look into starting with my registrar. Perhaps they can offer some assistance as well.

One of the well known backordering services locks the domain for 90 Days! the reason for this they give is to prevent chargebacks.

For more complex domain problems like these, persistence is your only friend.

Both avenues may be tough, depending on the registrar, but from experience it can sometimes be easier to get a domain unlocked than it is to get it "pushed" to a different user account. So you could try and get the status changed to "ACTIVE" and go the transfer route I mentioned...
