Dear All WebmasterWorld, maybe someone can help me with the following doubt/question.

I will go to register 3 domains (.pt, .com.pt, .com) with the same domain 'Name', so I can prevent someone from use my domain name for competitive proposes.

The two domains, Name.pt and Name.com.pt, will be registered here in Portugal within a portuguese certified registar.

The Name.com domain, I will be register it at some of the ICANN US registar.

The domain that I will use to my site will be Name.pt, as my site will be only relevant/point to portuguese country and persons.

The 2 domains, Name.com and Name.com.pt domains, will have no content, I only want them to redirect to Name.pt.

I will also want to use the US registar, to subscrive hosting for the Name.pt domain.

Question: can this be done? Can I register the 2 domains, Name.com and Name.com.pt, and don't buy host for them and even this way redirect them to Name.pt?

Thanks in advance & kind regards,
PSAZF
(Portugal)

Yes. They call it domain name forwarding. Most registrars will allow you to set up the forwarding of any requests to your any domain you choose. If yours won't do that then you can look into DNS hosting that will give you full control of where those names point.

You need to be careful if you host in the US, you need to ensure that Google indexes your name.pt rather than name.com otherwise your site may not show up in Google.pt (páginas de Portugal)

Hi gpmgroup,
Good point!

What must I do first? Buy the Hosting or buy the Domains?

Kind regards

Hi again,

Are you portuguese?

buy the Domains?

That first, then the hosting. Once you register a domain name, no one else can get it
except by filing a legal dispute.

I would;

Buy all the names in one session
Host only the name.pt
Get the content up & get it indexed
Then point the other domains to the site.

No we're English & based in England
