redirect question

how do i know if it is SE friendly

does anyone know how i can check to see if a redirect would be SE friendly or not?

Our designer has done some redirects on some test pages and I NEED to know if we will loose rankings from the move.

Any help would be appreciated

Short answer to your hypo is running such tests on your actual website domain isn't the best idea. Most serious SEOers employ scores of test sites with throw away domains and then take the results and apply them to their actual, performing websites.

Good for the domain registrars, don't you think?
