How long after domain expiration can you buy it?

Hi everyone,

I've been keeping my eyes on a domain name that I'd like. It's expiration date was 06 July 2005 (yesterday), so I waited till today, 07 July 2005, when the WHOIS database was updated today. Today the records show the domain was not renewed and it's expiration date is still 06 July 05. So surely it's up for grabs now?

When I got to register the domain, I can't. None of the domain registrars will let me - still says it's "unavailable". How long after the expiration date does it take before you can register it?

Many thanks

How long varies by registrar, despite the existence of guidelines. You'll need to track the domain until it reaches "pending delete, scheduled for release" status.

Then, if it's a good domain, you'll have to use every drop service you can and be prepared to bid against others.
