I have a client who has a domain that is a .biz an d she really likes it, but she has heard that .biz doesn't perform in the search engines. Is this true and why or why not?

thank you!

The search engines all seem to say that the TLD does not matter - there are many other and much better factors for them to look at to determine relevance.

I know of several multi-million dollar business ventures happily using .biz - but as with any domain, all the seo factors come into play, including keyword competitiveness. I would say that a nice, neat .biz is better than a 60-character-multi-hyphen .com

I would agree that the TLD is becoming less and less important, but the "age" of a domain seems to remain important. And age is indirectly related to TLD, since the .com's have been around a lot longer than .biz, etc.

Also, more traffic would come from a .com on the chance that a user is to guess the website's url.

If you say to someone you run a company called "red ink" the first thing they will try is redink.com.

90% of the time when I have guessed a URL to a website for a company, band, or anything like that - it has been correct.
