No perfect answer. I've seen it vary from registrar to registrar.

Watch it. When it moves to PENDING DELETE then it's usually 5 days to the drop, but then again, not always.

Place your drop orders everywhere and if it's a domain of interest to others be prepared to bid.

what date is actual expiration date 2006-05-15 or 15-May-2005.

Actually I've got a new client, he had this domain till last month with him. He and his last Website Management Company is having some dispute and now he wants me to work for him. What should I suggest him now, I'm totally confused. Because a few days before whois query was returning only 15-May-2005 as the expiration date but now it has been extended to 2006-05-15. Tell me please what is the best solution.

There are 3 general solutions:

1) negotiation with the domain owner (the one listed in the current whois result)

2) depending on the TLD: arbitration and/or court

3) registration of a new domain

There is no definite answer to the number of days until "moving on to delete". It varies. That's the answer.

The "new date" is either an indication that someone paid the renewal (if status has changed) or simply the system reset prior to the actual delete. You can always call the registrar to ask for clarification.

Domain status is still REGISTRAR-HOLD and I think this shows nobody paid for renewal, as u said "Webwork" I should contact REGISTRAR, who is the REGISTRAR "TUCOWS" or someone else then how to find?

rock, it appears that your knowledge of the realm is very limited. Assuming I'm correct I think you would do well to register a domain, if you haven't done so already, then read the registrars TOS and various other on-site FAQs, AND THEN call your new registrar and ask a lot of questions about how the process works and take a lot of notes.

If you're going to be in the game you've got some homework to do. It's better that you bring yourself up to speed before a problem arises.

The following is SnapNames summary of the various domain status recordd:

ACTIVE

(Set by registry.) The domain name is in active use and is listed in the zone file (the master list of all active domain names). Registrant data can be modified and the name can be renewed in this status.

REGISTRY-LOCK

(Set by registry.) The domain name is still active and is listed in the zone file. Registrant information cannot be modified by the registrar. The name can be renewed by the registrant.

REGISTRY-HOLD

(Set by registry.) The name can be renewed by the registrant, but it is not listed in the zone file, nor can the registrar modify its status or delete the name.

REGISTRAR-LOCK

(Set by the registrar currently managing the name or by the registrant.) The domain name is active and included in the zone file, and can be renewed by the registrant. However, it may not be transferred between registrars.

REGISTRAR-HOLD

(Set by the registrar currently managing the name.) The domain name may be renewed by the registrant, but it is not listed in the zone file and cannot have registration data modified. The name cannot be deleted until the registrar removes the hold.

REDEMPTIONPERIOD

(Set by registry.) This status is set by the registry when a registrar requests deletion of the name. This status lasts for 30 calendar days, and the only accepted action during this period is restoration of the name. Registrant data cannot be modified and it is not included in the zone file.

PENDINGRESTORE

(Set by registry.) This status is set by the registry after a registrar requests that a name be restored. The domain name will be listed in the zone and held in this status until the registry receives required documentation from the registrar. If documentation is not received within seven calendar days, the name reverts to REDEMPTIONPERIOD status. It will be set to ACTIVE only when the registrar provides documentation within the required period.

PENDINGDELETE

(Set by registry.) This status is set by the registry when a domain name has not been restored during REDEMPTIONPERIOD status. The domain name is not listed in the zone file, cannot have registration information modified and will be purged from the registry database after five calendar days.

It means while REGISTRAR-HOLD status, registrar can renew the domain. I've got the administrator (current owner according to whois records) with me, Is it possible that I renew it on behalf of the current owner but I'm not the person who registered it previously.

I would suggest you contact the registrar and ask them that :-)
