I own mydomain.com

I also own mydomain2.com

Having bought hosting, they allow me unlimited subdomains. Problem is, I want mydomain2.com (subdomain) NOT to look like this:

www.mydomain2.mydomain.com

Is there a way that I can make it so that people can just type in www.mydomain2.com and it will go to my subdomain? Or am I stuck with making them type this funky-looking URL?

Thanks for the advice.

Hi abaltes, welcome to Webmaster World!

A subdomain is by definition, dependent on the domain. Therefore, you can only have mydomain2.mydomain.com, because mydomain2 is actually inside mydomain.com

mydomain2.com is a domain name, not a subdomain. Therefore, in order to use mydomain2.com, you would have to register/buy that domain name too. This is the only way you would be able to redirect your users when they type mydomain2.com.

I'm assuming you have 2 domain names and 1 hosting account...

You could add url-forwarding to mydomain2.com, and have it go to mydomain2.mydomain.com. A user could type in mydomain2.com and would arrive at mydomain2.mydomain.com.

Hope this helps :)

This sounds like confusion of the way Cpanel operates to me.

If you have Cpanel and your adding your second domain, then although it will be shown in the details as mydomain2.mydomain.com, and it is reffered to as a subdomain, it will still be available via your browser as mydomain2.com

Confusing if it's the first time you've used Cpanel
