Hi,

I run a site that is geared towards musicians. Its both informative, and I perform a service. However, I now want to start other topics. At first, I was thinking about using a completely different domain name, but then I thought to myself, why bother trying to gain status again if I already have a domain name that is performing well. My question is:

Would I mess up my music theme if I was to create a subdomain to host a section about lets say, movie reviews/art/comics/etc? I can view separate stats for my subdomain, right? (I use the free AWStats) I see many big websites using subdomains to separate topics, such as Yahoo. Yahoo has subdomains for mail, music, their store, and much more. They are really broad! So can I do the same thing as the big guys, rather than to buy a new domain name? Or will this screw up my theme? What do you guys recommend? Thanks!

Hi,

Of course, adding subdomains is a good strategy and it doesn't hurt your main "theme" in any way.
The only thing you have to be aware is that, especially in the beginning stage,it will be more difficult to obtain good ranking for the "subs" respect to the main,so be patient and work well to the SEO.

Good luck!
