A guy I know has run into a domain transfer problem.

He is shown as the registrant of the domain name in the whois record, along with his email address. The domain is at godaddy. However, the email address tied to the godaddy account he does not have control over. Apparently an internet friend gave him the domain, but they didn't really know what they were doing and did not actually do a transfer, just changed the whois, and he can't contact this guy anymore.

Godaddy will not give him access to the domain even though he is shown as the registrant. So he cannot renew the domain, update nameservers, or transfer the domain because it has a lock on it.

Is there any way to get a hold of the domain?

Registrars treat the listed registrant as the legal owner, so that's one thing in the
guy's favor.

Assuming the administrative contact email address is the one you're referring to
that's not working, he'll most likely have to send a fax to prove he's indeed the
registrant and be allowed access somehow.

Have the guy contact Go Daddy and ask specifics on the fax.

I'd call the support number at the bottom of GoDaddy's home page. I've talked to them once or twice, and they were easy to reach. I suspect faxing a driver's license or some other document would be enough.

Its taken me about a year to transfer a name from Godaddy ... they're a fargin nightmare to deal with.

Our situation was similar to yours, what we ended up having to do was giving them the last 6 digits of the credit card that originally paid for the doiman, then we could change the registrant email address, then we could apply for a new "customer number", then we could change the password, then we could finally login, unlock the domain, change the DNS and transfer it!

A nightmare and needless to say I would never recommend Godaddy to anyone.
