No, I do not believe that you have to be a non profit in order to register a .org domain name. Could somebody verifiy this?

Nope the generic TLDs are unchecked. Anyone can buy these domains.

i plan on grabbing the name first and then deciding whether the company itself should be a non-profit afterwards.
