Hi guys,

I'm a newbie here and hope some1 can help me out.

I've recently purchased a self managed server and i have configured DNS entries for the domains to be hosted over there.

Now, when i try to change the ns entries in godaddy (the registrar), I'm getting a no host found error. Godaddy also does not allow u to put in the ip for the ns servers. it will only accept the host names like ns.somesite.com

Is there a place where I can correctly read how to configure dns entries. Maybe someone can tell me loopholes to lookout for?

Thnx
Terry

DNS and web server need to be on different machines.
DNS tells the rest of the world where your web server is.

I think you are getting this wrong mate. I've already done this once before where I had DNS and the Web Server on the same machine. I just don't remember how I did that.

Maybe someone knows more about it.

Thnx

Hi Terry,

Have you setup the reverse for your dns server's ip?

Some registrar will not accept ns without a reverse setup.

Tuan

I got the solution. The problem was not with the DNS setup. It was with godaddy. I had to setup the host names over there first & then change the ns entries.

Thanks for all the support.
