How do I contact the host of a hosting company?

I found a web site that has my content on their site but their emails all bounce from the website and also all emails on the domain contact. And also the host contacts emails bounce (I suspect they are hosting their own site). I would now like to find out who is hosting their server. How do I do this as the domain data says they are hosted by themselves.

i.e., the host for widgets.com is widgets.com

check the ip and see who owns it

I checked the IP number on a reverse look up and the host is owned by the host.

tracert it and see who has the one before it

check the DNS server that its on and see who owns the ips to the DNS servers

I have a Mac and not sure how to run a tracer on it.

Any suggestions?

running a Mac with any flavor of OS X , go to :
Applications>Utilities>Network Utility

Use Traceroute on there. (doesn't work if you are behind a firewall or wireless router)

There are several sites that offer a traceroute utility online. I don't want to promote any specific one here, but just Google for [tracert online] [traceroute utility] and related keywords - you're bound to find some.

Try this, start at the top of the food chain and work your way down.

Go to ARIN.NET and search for the IP number, it may be very illuminating.

also look at the actual DNS records and see if they have any info you can use.

for instance maybe rerouting one domain to another

I've tried every utility I can find and it always resolves back to the host as the host and doesn't matter if I use their domain or their IP number. This host has an IP range that covers about 12 numbers.

Arin.net didn't provide any additional info.

I found a Tracert and it indicates it is routed through qwest.net and then verio.net. Would verio.net be the host for that server?

Also the tracert said:
"Missing reverse DNS entry"
"Reached Destination"

Does that give a clue?
