whats best to have.

1. www.ukbluewidgets.co.uk
2. www.uk-blue-widgets.co.uk
3. www.ukblue-widgets.co.uk

obvioulsy my main keyword for this site is blue widgets. and www.bluewidgets and www.blue-widgets.co.uk are both unavailable.

and on this subject.

i already have one site, www.widgetworld.co.uk that is hosted with bigbadjimmys domain hosting service.

its an online shop and the domain host also provides me with my ecommerce.

so, do i host my new domain name with the same company, or do i host it elsewhere while still using their e-commerce facilities?

many thanx

If you want branding, number 1 is better. It's also easier to say and remember and it looks better. You can get the keywords in url through directory and page names. bluewidgets.co.uk would be the best.

Some people would host at different places because they think it might help with search results. I don't think it much matters. If you only have two domains, I guess it's not much trouble, just in case it does matter.

This really depends on your long-term plans for the domain. If it is a throw away or simply a landing page I'd go with #1. If you have long term plans then I'd go with something unique and brandable for the primary and set up a sub for bluewidgets.

One thing I do when researching names for a new domain is look up the top ten on MSN, Yahoo and Google to see how many of these listings are for a domain with a - in it. For the topic of my next domain, MSN and Yahoo had no
my-domains.com (or any other TLD) in the top ten. Google had two: a #3 and a #5.

So you might do the same and then decide which engine you are primarily targeting.

Keep in mind a paranoid theory that the - in a domain name tells the SEs (who pay attention) that the site has been optimized (at least to some degree).
