Hi,

Can someone help me. I currently own a doamin name that has expired as of (15/01/2005). My current host has basically stopped responding to my emails or phone calls for over 6 months.

What can I do to reclaim my domain name and move it onto another host. It os not a commercial domain but is with a usergroup that I support.

Forget about your host - who did you register it with? You can renew it (usually for 30 days or more after expiration) through your current registrar, or transfer it to a different registrar, then get a new host and point it to their DNS. If you don't recall who you registered it with, do a whois lookup to get that information.

6 months with no response? I'd have moved long ago!

Seriously though, you might want to check that they are still in business. Firevision in the UK went into liquidation a couple of months ago causing problems for a lot of people. If they have gone bust - there should be ways to transfer it out.

I am based in the Uk as well. I registered and hosted with the same company. Is that bad?

If you're with Firevision, I'd move your domain out as quickly as possible. If it's an international domain (com/org/net etc) you can probably still use Firevision's website or OpenSRS (https://manage.opensrs.net/ - just make sure your admin contact details are up to date).

I might be wrong, but as far as I know, Firevisions Nominet tag has been suspended, so any .uk IPS TAG changes via Firevison's website won't be actioned. To get this done you'll need to get Nominet to change it - but this will cost £15+vat for each domain. Whether you want to wait to see if Firevision will come out of liquidation will be up to you.

I would _never_ register and host with the same company.
I registered with the original biggie, at one time a monopoly, and at a premium.
Whatever else goes wrong, I'm NOT at the mercy of some rinky-dink host ISP that goes bust on a whim.
My first host turned out to be a spam pipeline. As soon as my yearly renewal came up I bailed out. - Larry
