Anyone knows where to register a .fr domain. It seems that networksolutions does not support .fr and I would hate to have multiple accounts for each domain. suggestions would be appreciated

AFNIC [afnic.fr] is the registry for domain names .fr (France) and .re (Reunion Island). They have nothing to do with Network Solutions.

You need to be French citizen in order to register .fr. The registar system may allow you allow you to register even if you are not, but .fr can take it away from you at anytime. I heard they recently took away hundreds of domains that non-citizens had registered.

Yes, once you have your domain name, you can buy hosting separately from anyone you want, and in any country you want. Just specify your .fr domain name when you sign up.

Hi Hanuman

You can use a company that offers a proxy service for .fr domain names.

That way you will get your .fr domain, although you will not be the legal holder of the domain.

EuroDNS is currently in dispute with AFNIC and can't provide the proxy service.

I'd be worried about registering a name through proxy. The biggest way you can lose your online business is to lose the domain. You a lose anything else and keep going. The domain is everything.

i think it is a service they offer to their users.
wanadoo is a french isp. so if you sign up with them [within france of course] than they can register the domain for you and even host it.

I apologise Mods if this should not be posted but a few members are finding it difficult to find a site for .fr domain names

Try using
[netnames.co.uk...]
or
[afnic.fr...]

other than these try typing at google what you require
[google.co.uk...]

but you must understand in order to own a .fr domain you must either live or have an office in France, its not as easy to own this countries domain name as others worldwide

Yes you did understand OK.

By having an office I did actually mean you have to have a registered company in France.
