ICann recently changed the way transfers work making it easier for someone to steal you site. So if they send you an email and you don't respond..bye bye site.

They recommend you lock the site. Can anyone tell me if we did lock the site what the transfer procedure would be? Same as the old one? Fax in your personal papers etc?

With the new policy, you still get an email from the NEW registrar, that you have to reply to for the transfer to go through. The second email that you get from the current registrar is optional.

If your domain is locked, then you have to unlock it at the current registrar before the transfer can even be requested.

Voxman, definitely check out the thread posted by bill, and I encourage you to read about these changes at ICANN's website [icann.org], as well. It's a GOOD thing for us. (The full ICANN transfer policy can be found at this address [icann.org].)

So if they send you an email and you don't respond..bye bye site.

Absolutely not. If you don't respond, the domain stays where it is.
