Have read through a number of previous articles, but would like some more feedback before I do something silly potentially.

Is a .us really worth it for a generic term (i.e. not kw-kw.us or even kw-kw-kw.us)

Let's say for example it was 'biking.us' (it's not this btw) was up for sale and they wanted $2000 for it. Is this a wise move?

I see that .us will be picked up by Yahoo and Google so no probs there, but will .us become a spam city like .biz (and therefore be reduced to junk value?).

I don't want to go expending a bunch of notes if this might already be happneing.

The site will be very much a US-focused site and I can't affor dthe .com, .net or .info (albeit that the first two won't sell!).

What do you all think?

$2000 for most .us domains is not worth it. And that is definitely a retail price.

If the .com is already taken, note that you will lose 10%-30% of your return visitors to the .com if they have similar content.

Highest (public) .us RETAIL sales, ever:

Fashion.us $10,000+ (exact price unknown)
Stocks.us $8,062
Party.us $6,000

Remember those are the absolute top retail values.
Compare that to a huge number of six digit .com sales.
There are probably hundreds of .us keywords that trade for $100 or less these days on the wholesale level.

Most famous .us use is probably Volvo.us, which they advertised heavily.

I really don't think it's worth it. Keyword domains have been "out" for years and branding is in: "google.com" not "searchengine.com".

I would spend the time to find a good unique, brandable .com and leave the keyword domain to the domain name collectors.

Bugger!

The .com is completely different and users would not be duped into thinking it was the same site.

I want to set up a US site in this field and as such don;t want the multi-keyword

Do you think I should sit tight with a bid at $1500 and flush them out? They want $4000 (LOLOLOL)

Thanks for advice
