Hi,

Im in negotiations to purchase a domain name that has existed for ten years. Its got PR6 stable for the last two years and all sub pages are pr5. Its on topic to a ´T´in terms of my niche and ranks well for ´widgets´ , when widgets is the principle term..i.e. its worth buying!

Anyway , my question is how would people reccomend the purchase be done. Ive heard of eskrow? Any other suggestions. I am in Ireland and the domain owner in Florida.

Also what is the current thinking in terms of keeping PR? I have scouted around this forum looking for further information but cant find any so have decided to post.

Thanks.

David

I was interested in a domain related to my business which has expired last week. However when I went to
book it, i saw this remark " This domain name expired on (date/october/2004 ) and is pending renewal or deletion.

It seems network solutions is holding on to it. Can someone guide me how long / in how much time do they release the domain name & when is it likely to be free.

thanks,
eddy

Hi, I'm interested in the same info from eddy22 above.. I have learned so far th it takes a minimum of 35 days for the domain to become available for new registration. However, you could not be the only one interested in the domain you want, there is a lot of people paying for 'soon to expire' domains listings, or 'just expired' domains too .. so, if the domain is good for sure they already know and whoever makes a bussiness of this wil put a backorder (like a pre-registration?) for a chance to get it, this is somethiog that you can also do by your self, just go to your regular registrar and ask them for 'back-orders' .. of course it is a little more that te regular domain registration because they need to monitor for you. Then if when the domain becomes available you are the 'only'one interested you will get it for the price you already paied. But if there is more people interested then you will go into 'auction' mode.. pushing price until everybody gives up but you ;-) ... this is what I have read so far but is the first time that I'm interested in a soon to expire domain.

Please, somebody expert here could clarify a little more if what I just said is true? .. and could also elaborate a little more in the action process?

Thanks,

DaveN, I forgot to ask you something :-) ... you said that allowing the domain expire will make it loose the PR ... sometimes that is not under your control.. so, it will get expired. But once it is a valid domain again .. and if the back links still exist .. will it recover the PR?

eddy22, regarding your query, it sounds like the name you wanted was backordered
via SnapNames.

NetSol and SnapNames have a current agreement that a domain name that expired at
NetSol and was not renewed after a certain time can be awarded to the winner after
an auction for the name has taken place...without letting it go thru the RGP!

New domain name deletion policies has since then been enacted, though they'll take
effect on December 21.

for the expert domainers ;-)

What about the new NetSol Next Rigth Registration service (NRR)? .. is that the name? :-S ...

Well.. the question is that I'm not a domain trader but I found a nice domain I'd like to get .. it is pendingtobedeleted or so.. by NetSol .. then I found that thing about NetSol/SnapName and almost did the back order, but I decided to research a little more, then I found about NRR which will accept the order 'only' if there is not an order by someone else already, I gave the domain name and it came back saying that there was one already (of course, this domain is really good) ... so, again. the question is: Is the game over here? because already NetSol sold the NRR to somebody, does it mean than nobody else, even Snapnames whit its agreeement can get it?

Another question is.. let's say that you put the back order with SnapN (which is free) and they get the domain but there is more people (I think the NRR could be SnapN ;-)) .. am I forced to go into the auction? do I have to pay the $60 anyway because they were able to get it? or can I wait and see the initial minimum bid and then if I want to go into the game send mi bid?

Thanks

I bet you the backlinks will disappear the day it expires, and remember google feed expiring domains to dmoz... should be ok in yahoo they are a little slower at killing expired domains

If you keep the site the same you should keep your backlinks and PR. If you completly change what it is then you will lose some backlinks and any DMOZ listings eventualy. Specialy if you compete with somebody. If you start to rank well and make money you are guaranteed that people will start spidering your whole site to download it and sometimes use it. They will also do everything they can to get you out of G. This business is very cutthroat. If you are doing very well with redone spam site G will hand ban your site for sure eventualy.
