Hi jay2004

Easy-peasy. Just head to any domain registrar with your creditcard in hand.

Godaddy is a popular one that I use. To be honest I haven't bothered to look at many others.

More importantly though, jay2004, read thru the Terms Of Service/Terms And Conditions/Service Agreement of the registrar you're about to choose. You don't want any nasty
surprises.

You may want to find a domain name company that gives you information that is easy to understand, and a good customer support department. Always remember, the cheapest domain name company doesn't always mean the best.

Also consider whether a .org is really the right type of domain as they were primarily intended for non-profit ORGanisations. That is charities, trusts, advisory associations etc.......

But of course ".org" is also good if you just want your site to sound very official.

The potential dissadvantages are many including:
"I won't go there to purchase a widget because that's a non commercial site"
"was that site .com or .co.uk" hardly ever "was it .org"
Outside the USA SE rankings are unpredictable.
etc,

For commercial sites, use:
In the USA use a .com
In the UK use a .co.uk
etc.

Exactly. I own a .org domain, and have a popular site about it. That .org is in the form of brandname.org, where brandname is a well known pharmaceutical. That site warns about the dangers of that pharmaceutical. I have a prominent disclaimer on the home page stating I am not affiliated with the pharmaceutical company, and is owned and run by an organization I control. I even have the top 2 spots on Google on the SERP for this trademark, ahead of the multibillion dollar drug company that owns the trademark. That multibillion dollar pharmaceutical company could have registered the .org long before me, and didn't. I doubt they would prevail at ICANN if the challenged this. And if they even tried, given this would would make front page of the Wall Street Journal, and other national media, I doubt they want to give me this attention. ;)
