Do drop-catch agencies keep the best for themselves?

hey.. do you guys think if the domains are better, then agencies might grab them for their own benefit and not let you know?

I tried to grab [an expiring but strong single keyword domain] The agency was not able to grab it.

As a general rule no - at least for the better known services. For good domain names there are way too many eyes watching them before *and* after the drop. If the domainers found out about it there would be a pretty large backlash. There are strange things that happen from time to time and if someone thought they could get away with it they may try, but I think it would be more an individual running cowboy rather than the company risking their reputation.
