I thought Yahoo already offers domain names. Google "yahoo domains".

unless they mean that they are becoming an ICANN accredited registrar now, where as before they were reselling for someone else?

No, they are not ICANN-Accredited. They are still using INWW.com as their Registrar. But their commitment to competing with GoDaddy is very firm as it read in their press release. Rumor is they will continue to step up the pressure and work at becoming closer to a GoDaddy organization.
