Domain Redirection

Hi,
I'm really new to web-building etc, so sorry if this question sounds a bit stupid :p
Essentially I purchased a domain name for my rugby club which forwards to my personal webspace, ie:
www.domain-name.com -> www.ispprovider.com/mywebspace

The domain name people offer url cloaking to keep the domain name in the title-bvar which I prefer (because it just looks neater etc), but this prevents people logging into the website because its in a frame (the website is just a basic postnuke php one).

Is there any way I could re-direct whilst keeping the "www.domain-name.com" bit in the title bar?
^^ Preferably a free way :)

Cheers for any advice in advance

If your provider/host allows you to point multiple domains at your account you can simply do that. With accounts I have it works like this:

At the domain registrar set the DNS to your host.
At the host, register the domain name that is pointing to them.
That is it.

I am not sure a personal account from an internet provider will allow you to park and point domains.

Hi,
Sorry to sound stupid, but I'm pretty new to this :p
I looked up the IP address of www.myhost.com/mysite/ and then in the domain registrar set the DNS lookup to that IP.
Now what do I do?
I'm still waiting to see whether this has works - says it takes up to 24hrs to take effect.

As I mentioned - Did you check with your host to see if they allow you to park and point multiple domains?

You would not point the domain (at the register level) to the site IP address. It would need to be pointing to the DNS servers of your host.

If your not sure what your doing you should *not* take any steps without communicating with your host first. I am afraid that you will bring your domain down temporarily.

Ok,
I went into my hosting services control panel.
There is an option to point + point a domain - but it says I'm not allowed to do it :/
Is there any other way around this problem?

You should contact your host and explain to them what your trying to do. They will be able to help you. If it takes them longer than a minute to understand what your doing - change hosts.

Huh? It sure does not sound simple? By DNS do you mean IP Addresses? What is a Host? What if you have a colocated dedicated server, do you also have a 'host'? What do you mean register the domain name? Do you possibly mean register a new nameserver?

Want to use Masked Forwarding a.k.a. Cloaked Redirection, where the domain name stays in the browser window even after it forwards to a website of a different name. Do not want to put the masked forwarded domains online by setting up a website for each one. Want to mask forward passively. Please help with this issue. Thanks.

There are actually two ways of repointing your domain. The first one would be to reconfigure your domain by getting into the control center for your domain which your host has given you then look for any zone file tool. You should see either a complex repointing tool or a rather simple one. The simple repoint lay-out would only ask you to type in where you want to point your domain at. The complex one would ask you to work on your zone file. For the complex lay-out, change your A records and type in the complete URL of your site where your domain is going to point to. If it asks you for an IP address, type it down as well IF you have a static IP. The other way would be to contact your registrar and ask them to repoint it for you. They would either: A.Do that for you. or B. Ask you to log-in at the domain administration page at their site. They'll probably ask you to do option B.

Since I have my own colocated dedicated server running Direct Admin CP I prefer to do it myself rather than use a 3rd party like zoneedit.com and be at their mercy and possible cost too (only 5 domains are free and I have more than 5).

Trouble is I can't figure out how to do Masked Forwarding of non-active domains.

Zoneedit are brilliant we have hundreds of sites with them and never had an issue.

You control the name server setting from your registar / ISP and you control the IP address from Zoneedit therefore it gives you complete independence from your registrar, ISP & Zoneedit.
