can u still buy domain names?

hi, everywhere i look you can find domain names for rent over a few years, is it still possible to buy your domain name or has this dried up?

Yes, you can still buy domain names. Maybe I am misunderstanding the question.

Just do a google search for buying domain names.

I don't think we can drop company names here. I buy all of my domains through one company and it costs about 8 dollars a year.

I suppose one might consider this "rental" rather than "buying"....

You pay a yearly fee for the domain name. That amount varies (sometimes HUGELY) depending on registrar. You will always need to renew your basic license to use such-and-such.com before the expiry date with the registrar....

I don't know of anywhere to "buy" a domain "in perpetuity" - in other words, I'm not personally aware of any registrar who will sell you rights to any given domain name "forever" - so no, you actually don't "buy" outright a domain name; in essence, you rent or lease it.
