Hey all,

I am new to WebmasterWorld (and to the publishing and publicizing aspects of web design) and have a few questions regarding domain services.

I am currently developing a website that will offer web design services, but I would also like to be able to offer web hosting and domain registration capabilities. This way, my clients will not have to go through the trouble of getting these services elsewhere (and also so that I can get some extra cash :P).

However, to put it simply, I have no idea how to do this. I know several small businesses such as the one I am in the process of establishing that offer domain registration and web hosting in conjunction with their web design services. I would like to do this also, but do not know how to go about with it.

Do I actually have to set up a physical server to host web pages? And do I have to get some kind of liscense to provide domain registration? How can a small independant web design company who is already hosted by a much larger company also offer its own domain registration and web hosting?

Please help out a novice. Thank you!

The simple answer is become a reseller.

Most hosting companies offer a wholesale account if you have X sites hosted with them.

Plenty of domain name registration companies offer affiliate relationships.

In general if you get a decent wholesale price - ie hosting for $5 per month - and then charge, say $10 per month - your clients won't quibble because $10 per month is a decent price for web hosting.

You can find some domain name registrars with prices as low as $6 - $7 per year. You could probably charge $12 - $15 and not have any problem.

I see, so I just ask my hosting company to register my client's domain, then charge my client a little extra for the hassle of arranging it.

But which hosts will let me register domains at 5 bucks a month?

FYI - the hosting companies are domain name resellers.

You can *host* for $5/month (or less).

You can register a domain name for about $6 - $7 if you look around a bit.
