Domain Name Forwarding and Masking NOT working?

Hi!

A friend of mine called me to say that his domain that he purchased at GoDaddy is not working on the Road Runner system and several other ISPs.

We both have domains like that and they both work for me (Earthlink) but not for him (on RR).

GoDaddy said that a recent law was passed concerning this to stop some kind of illegal activity and that Road Runner went overboard in killing the forwarding, along with a couple of other ISPs (maybe Time Warner, he said).

Does anyone know about this?

As an alternative, I know forwarding can be done if a domain name is hosted but how is masking achieved, so the visitor doesn't know he/she's been forwarded?

THANKS!

Ben

A couple things. First, RoadRunner is TimeWarner's cable service.

Next, I'm not sure what the "law" is except, perhaps CAN-SPAM. Not sure how that law applies to domain names, however. Maybe the ISPs are getting a bit aggressive in its interpretation.

Finally, I don't know the technical details of domain forwarding with masking, but many hosts who are also registrars offer the service very cheaply - like $5 a year.

Hi ..you might try for an explanation of how it all works and also for the service itself and some very usefull others for free [zoneedit.com...] ....One caveat ..where at any point they say "don't" ..then beleive them and "don't" ...otherwise you have the power to wreak untold havoc on your sites or mail etc

BTW ..welcome to WebmasterWorld

Thanks for the tip Leo. I just spent a couple of enlightening hours there.
