First, anyone notice that GoDaddy is no longer giving discounts on registrations for registering a domain more than one year?

Next, I woke up this morning to receive an e-mail from GoDaddy that my backorder failed. The domain name that I'm dying to get expired Friday and was renewed by the owners yesterday for another year.

I also lost a domain name last fall to a similar scenario. Questions is, why do people renew domains for just one year at a time rather than grabbing it for a number of years so to not risk losing it? I know I do that with all my domains that I have no desire to drop after just a year.

Thanks for letting me vent, maybe I'll be luckier with this domain at this time next year!

Hi kriskd,

Have you checked out their sister company maddogdomains I am sure they still have some offers ongoing, I know that yesterday included a free years reg with a one year reg.

not sure if this is a serious question, but in answer you will never loose a domain if you renew in time so why front up years in advance, my first domain set me back quite a hefty annual fee, since then i've seen registration prices progressively drop year on year, what is the incentive to pay in advance in a falling market?

I guess the other reason is that they hope somebody will get tired of waiting for a name to drop and just buy the damn thing off them ;)

I'm beginning to think it is a futile process to try to backorder domains that once were an active site (ie, they have PR and are in the search engines). I just can't seem to get anything I want! :-)
