Need to transfer a snapped domain

Hi folks,

Is it common for registrars to do this? I had a domain snapped a couple of months ago and am now ready to roll it out... I really don't want it in the current registrar (chosen by randon by snapnames).

A domain name must be in the <snip> system for at least 150 days after any monetary transaction before a transfer can be allowed. As per your service agreement with us, if the domain name is within 30 days of the expiration date, or if the domain name is in an expired status, a renewal will be required.

My regsistrar claims I cannot transfer the domain for 60 days they claim 150 days and insist that I send them a form via snail mail.

Just want to check and see if this is indeed common or if I'm being jerked around by the new registrar.

If the snipped service name begins with a "T" then your best bet is to go via Snapnames' own support team and get them to hammer on their partner. Basically, while company T has lousy Terms & Conditions either way, they are more lenient towards Snapped domains than towards domains registered directly - that's IF you can get them to pay attention, of course!

You've got the registrar pegged. :)

Snap has been pretty bad -- infact abysmal with their support. I have a domain stuck with another registrar who does not even have a support email address listed on their site.

Complain to ICANN and cc the registrar on the email. 150 days is ridiculous and likely a violation of ICANN's rules (this is just a hunch).

Webwork, the suggestion worked on one domain which was "lost" during a snapback snafu. Been banging my head against the wall for 4 weeks ... one email to the contact on internic with a cc to the icann address got the issue fixed.

Lets see if I can now get the registrar lock released.

That's pretty funny! In other words, "Although we are locking you in for six months, we have graciously granted you an opportunity to move your registration during the six months that you are least likely to be thinking about it."

FYI, they have released the REGISTRAR-LOCK.. not they just have to approve the domain transfer.

Webwork, I owe you one more cigar!

I personally can't see why you would want to transfer it until before the next renewal is due anyway. All registers are quite adept at putting your nameservers in place. If its for managements sake take into account that having all your domains with one register and with the same whois info can lead to problems.

We all have our reasons. There is a particular service that this registrar does not provide which I need for these particular domains.

Looks like you're stuck with TotalNic, right?

After 60 days email them nicely and say:

I own <domain> via SnapNames Snapback and would like you to now unlock the domain name.

If they refuse, try after 150 days.

If you register a domai nwith TotalNic however, you are going to have to work alot harder :(

BTW, no registrar will allow transfer of a domain (com/net) before 60 days
