DNS Server, do I need it?

Do I need a DNS Server

I am running a server with some sites on it. I am currently using the name server that the colo place lets me use. I would like to not rely on this server. I realized I can have godaddy.com associate a nameserver I specify to an ipaddress I specify. For example if I owned america.com (which I don't) and if I had the static IP 200.200.200.200, I could make ns.america.com resolve to 200.200.200.200. Now if I do this, do I have to have a DNS server at 200.200.200.200 or can it just be the web server?

Thanks in advance

I use the DNS and web server on the same server (windows 2000). DNs is a small hit on performance (tiny). Make sure you understand very carefully security issues with DNS, make sure you are fully patched (regardless of what flavor of DNS you are using) and then make sure again. There are lots and lots of security issues related to DNS. But it works fine.
