does it matter where i register a domain name

godaddy, network-solutions, yahoo!, etc.

prices range greatly, but i would like to register domains for business purposes. would registering at godaddy make a domain less professional?

no, this doesn't matter. Only reason for picking a certain registrar would be for its support/price/reputation.

don't worry about professionalism with who you register your domain name.

Try having a look through the site search for previous threads on which Registrars are used by different members - there's a wealth of suggestions in there!

In the grand scheme of things, I'd be less concerned about how professional a certain Registrar looks and base my choice around functionality, services, pricing and reputation - word of mouth recommendation is as good as any!

I can't imagine the average consumer would care where you registered the domain any more than who prints your business cards or carries your long distance telephone calls. GoDaddy is a silly name mostly serving small businesses... but then so is Yahoo.

Service, price, and functionality. Your company of course might prioritize them differently, leading you to a different vendor.
