How long before NetSol release a .net?

There's a six letter .com domain name registered with Network Solutions which I have wanted to have for a long time. It was registered by someone else, but they have not renewed it. The WhoIs information states:

"Record expires on 12-Jan-2004.
Record created on 12-Jan-2002."

Roughly when will this domain name become available for me to register please?

Thank you.

Update

Checked internic.com and it says:

"Updated Date: 12-jan-2004
Creation Date: 12-jan-2002
Expiration Date: 12-jan-2005"

?

So why does the whois at NetSol say it hasn't been renewed? Strange... who is more accurate internic or netsol?

Here is the process:

1 - Domain is active
2 - Domain expires. Registrar will delete the domain within 45 days.
3- Grace period. Registrar holds the domain name for an additional 30 days. During this time the original registrant can renew.
4 - Pending delete. The domain name will be released within 5 days.
5 - Available to purchase.

It sounds like your domain is in step 2 or 3. If it is a premium name, you will have strong competition for it.

chicagohh is right on target with the process, however there is one last avenue available.

Until the domain goes "pending delete", the original owner (for a fee) can recover the domain name. It will be hard, but if you can get the original owner to recover the domain and sell it to you thats your only other approach.

Thank you for the advice.

Status: REDEMPTIONPERIOD

It's been two months over. Still waiting :) Hope the owner doesn't remember to renew it...

Yes, it is a pretty good name. Of all the back-order services, which is generally considered to be the quickest please?

Also, which ones allow you to continue using their service for the initial one-off fee if they don't manage to 'grab' a domain name?

Thanks.

If it really did expire on 12 Jan 2004, it should become avaiable around 12 Mar 2004.

I was researching this for a .com domain name I want that has just expired after 5 years of non-use. According to the company I use for registrations, the period between expiry and sale is 60 days for .com domains.

So, try again in a week! :-)
