does using current registrar help or not matter?

I've never tried to grab a domain when it actually expires so I am looking for some voices of experience.

There is a domain on GoDaddy (Wild West) that is about to be deleted (past redemption point now) that I really want.

I guess the good news is that GoDaddy only allows a single person backorder (no auction) and it's offering the option to me, so it's open in theory.

Does it matter that I use GoDaddy since they are the current registar? Or can I use any registrar with snap services and the odds are equal? If it doesn't matter, what is the recommended service (pricing if possible, GoDaddy=$19).

(My instinct is that since the domain is actually returned to the registry, hence the term "snap back", that the service doesn't matter at that point.)

I found this great thread here: [webmasterworld.com...]
but does anyone have anything to add/update since that was over half a year ago?
