I am just a bit confused on how to the first phase of this process is carried out. After the sunrise period, from day one what happens there will be 1000's of people waiting to register a domain name, over loaded servers etc etc ..

I have pre-registered (I know it is 90% useless ) but this particular registrar is blocking names which have already been pre-registered

First off, there are no accredited .eu registrars yet. So it is impossible to pre-register any .eu domain. A sunrise period is intended to allow trademark and Intellectual Property holders a period in which to register the .eu format of their holding.

This FAKE .eu registrar is only blocking domains that have been "pre-registered" via itself.

The sunrise period tends to lessen the rush when the general registration period starts. However it may be a good thing, once properly accredited .eu registrars are created, to pre-register via a number of registrars to increase the chances of getting the domain you want.
