I'm conducting a survey and I've determined that as of a couple of weeks ago retail domain registration prices were as follows:
Company - 1 Year .Com Registration - Fee Notes
Bigfoot - $4.95
EV1Servers - $5.00
1&1 Internet Inc. - $5.99 - Web Site says 'Coming Soon'
Hostway - $6.95 - Includes Domain Parking
Web.com - $6.95 - Includes 1 Page Site
GoDaddy - $7.95 - Transfers are $6.95
Aplus.Net - $7.95
RegisterFly - $9.99
NameSecure - $15.00
Interland - $16.00
Verio - $19.00
Register.com - $35.00
Network Solutions - $35.00
Does anyone know if there are any cheaper registrars out there?
Are there other registration options under $7 for a 1 year .com?
Thanks for your help on this!
I'm not supposed to self promote, so I'll just simply say that I am a Wild West Domains reseller. Wild West is GoDaddy's reseller program.
We offer Domains as cheap as we can, and this isn't really blowing our own horn since many such resellers do. Our .com (or any TLD/ccTLD) 1 year registration is inflated by exactly one nickel to encourage registrants to save a dime with a 2 year registration. Otherwise, all prices we have are as absolutely as low as we can make them.
Currently, .com's are $7.90. This will last until the end of the year and then go back up to $8.80. But I think you should always take more into account than price when considering a Domain Name.
Not just I, but many other Wild West resellers offer the same deal (though they can set thier own prices/options)...
Free Domain Forwarding or Forwarding with Masking.
Free 100 email address Forwards.
Free Parking or For Sale page.
Free Total DNS Control.
Free Change of Registrant (owner).
Free Domain Status Alerts.
Free Domain Locking (changes to your Domain are automatically rejected util you unlock that Domain).
But, above all, you should consider support. Support is the very reason we decided that we needed to take control over our own list of Domains as a reseller, while giving us the added benefit offering Domains to compliment our Web Hosting services (though we do offer free domains with our advanced hosting accounts).
We feel that our customers have only been pleased by our support (plenty of comliments and no complaints, so far).
The second great thing that hasn't really come to truition is that it is also intended as a hook to get people interested in our Design and Development services. It was a great idea, but it hasn't worked. ;-) With so many bargain Domain webstores out there, it's hard to get noticed. ;-) And afterall, you are competing with GoDaddy, who's a big player.
So, although this may sound as if I am self promoting, I am simply trying to speak from experience. I certainly hope that being a reseller won't disqualify this post. ;-)
Afterall, it has been our problems/nightmares with NetSol and Register that has made this little venture necessary in order to secure our own list of Domains safely and reliably. We've even helped a guy get his hyjacked Domain back (boy, was he pleased, after losing 1/2 traffic for a year).
But please consider much more than price when considering a Domain Name. It will matter, especially in the long run.

In the old days sites like Register.com and Network Solutions were pretty reasonable on the initial purchase - then wolloped you with a $25 renewal fee.
I am looking to buy about 100 domains so this will make a big difference! ;)
CHC I'm suspicious of your suggestion for OnlineNIC as there is no way to get just a single domain bought off them for any price, let alone $6.69. You'd have to give OnlineNic almost $700 and buy 100 domains. (CNOBIN does the same routine as OnlineNIC, only best prices with large deposits)
You can get a single domain at Hostway or WEB.com for $6.95, so why bother with that nonsense.
The control panel is very easy to use, you have TOTAL control over everything, and the support is very good. By email they get back probably the next day, and on the phone i have always got straight through, the people know what they're talking about, and do what you want without any fuss.
They have even helped me rescue some clients domains which i was having problems with, no charge, they did all the phoning and i was extremly impressed.
I'm not sure they are the cheapest, i think its about £11 incl VAT for .com but they are cheaper than others, and worth it for the support and freedom with your domains.
They also offer free hosting on domains brought throught themselves.

You are "suspicious"? Are you a detective? OnlineNIC are one of the earliest ICANN accredited registrars and offer a superb product. There is more to domain registration than simply the headline price. If you cannot afford to prepay for 100 domain credits you can still have $7.99 for prepaying 10 domains. Surely even you can afford $80?
To call a perfectly valid suggestion by me "nonsense" is patonising and insulting and as a Ssenior Webmaster World member, frankly, you should know better.
I see it's 17%?
Almost - is 17.5% - but you can claim this back if you run a business and are VAT registered - lovely
With regards to UKreg - I have 350 domains with them and have never had any more bother than a slow response to a simple query. Excellent service - but their .com stuff at £9 (~$16) per year is too pricey for my 100 plus domains I want to but - ... looks like web.com could be a winner here!

I am going to suggest Netrillium even though I have not done business with them.
A little research shows customers are happy and they are a mid-volume enom reseller.
They do $7.50 com/net/org and $13/2year .co.uk/.org/.uk
(Registerfly is enom's largest reseller and doesn't come close to that)
Netrillium confirmed they will do a few pushes to other enom accounts if it's kept reasonable.
If you would like to respond by sticky mail that would be cool.
Thanks in advance!
Recently, I have completed acquiring a dozen domain names (without having to use any middlemen!) that I would like to all point to the same site. Who would be the cheapest ISP (host) for 1 site with 12 URL's?
DomainHostmaster.com has free Domain forwards (also available with free masking), is that what you were talking about? Or do you want 1 hosted site with each Domain parked there pointing to that one site.
Either is cool, and each has it's merits...
Domain forwards allow people to use Domain2.com to find Domain1.com. Domain1.com shows up in the browser bar. This reinforces the Domain1.com brand. This method is used often for typos, too.
Domain forwards with masking allow people to use Domain2.com to find the Domain1.com website and rebrand it as a Domain2.com website. This allows the search engines to rank both Doname names.
Parking at the host is actually the best method of doing forwards with masking. Many hosts allow unlimmited number of parked Domains for a small ($5.00 each) setup fee (like me), then the Domain(s) can be parked there for life for free. Other hosts allow a set number of Domains, or allow unlimited Domains on the premium accounts.
Almost all hosts do this, and since this now turns the topic into someting else, I'll just say that you will have to find the right hosting plan for you and your needs.
OR, if you are just trying to park your Domains with a PPC service such as Fabulous, Sedo or DomainSpa, (or the Afternic, who's PPC program starts on Feb 1) you just have to set the Name Servers of each Domain according to the PPC program. But, I know that's not what you are interested in, I just wanted to point it out for others. :-)
They will get you for cloaked redirects. They don't like those, and that is understanable because a cloaked page delivers different content to a SE than a user.
I am an SEO. :-)
I have been really amazed at the amount of type-in traffic there is. I thought I was the only one using the browser bar to surf. :-)
