Hi there,

I was unfortunate to register couple of domain names at <snip>. The price was OK and they say they give full control over domain configuration.

<snip>

That is unfortunately untrue. Once registered with <snip> you cannot change DNS setting for domains. They force one to host with them. The only option is to move domain to another registrar.

However <snip> doesn't give up easily, it looks I will have to wait at least 3 weeks till they release my domain names. It means that I will lose at least a month since registration.

Well, I will have to live with that but I am not very happy of being misled as for promised control over the domain name. Is it me just being picky expecting access to DNS settings? They said I would be able to configure and administer all settings though..

Thanks for listening, already feel bit better

Iras

Slightly worrying as I have just signed up with them! However at the moment only using them for web/mail forwarding to .mac webspace/email. However for my commercial site where I have just changed host I shall now transfer the domains from old hosting company to the new hosting company and not <snip> if they won't allow the domains to point directly to the new hosting company's nameservers.

Hi there,

it looks my problem won't resolve easy.

I have been trying to move my .com domain away from them for a week now. After calling their support I was told that they removed the tag from domain the 10th December but they are still declining transfers!

What could be the reason? What can I do in that case?

Please help

Was this a true "registrar" or a hosting-company posing as a registrar? Most of the time these difficulties are caused when people register AND host their domain with a hosting company.

It's -much- better to register the domain at a proper registrar and host it at a hosting company you choose. These services overlapping seems to often cause problems... it's always best to have -full- control over your domain.

At any rate, I'd pick a -real- registrar from the following ICANN list:

[icann.org ]

- canuck

Transfer of domains are prohibited within 60 days of registration.

cabbie, that is for transfers to another registrar. The issue here seems to be a simple matter of updating nameserver which should be possible from day one.

I took this to mean he wants to transfer the domain.

yes, I am forced to move my domain as they don't allow me to change nameservers, but then they're making problems with transfering too
