can e.g. Godaddy steal domains before you buy?

hi
i've been trying to buy domains and hosting today, but no sites seem to want to accept switch (UK debit card) as a form of payment?
i'm scared that the companies i've tried to purchase through will now buy the domains (and hike up the price)as i have gone through the entire process of searching for the domain through their website. is this a reasonable fear?

It would never happen with godaddy IMO, and I seriously doubt would happen with any operator of reasonable size. I know it's a natural bit of paranoia when you think you've tripped over the perfect domain name, but it is just paranoia - IMO.

With the HUGE volume of searches being conducted every day - it is very unlikely that any registrar would notice your search - or care to register your domain choice on the chance that you may pay more than the registration fee for it.

names.co.uk also accept switch/solo. It is likely that if you want to buy a domain name with a UK debit card, you will have to buy it from a UK company. Switch/Solo are not international cards. Try a Google search on Google.co.uk for domain names with UK only selected. Put 'switch' into the search description to narrow it down a bit.

Or, you could even get your domain the way I did. I used the good old BT Phone Book/Yellow Pages. Much quicker, and filtered out a lot of 'sharks' out there as well!

You can use:

123-reg.co.uk and easily.co.uk no problem!
