hi all,
i'm trying to buy a .ca domain, to run a site for canadian audience - but it's a really painful process.
it appears that non canadians just can't do that - unless you got a canadian trademark or so.
the only reference i saw (also looking here) was to cadomains.ca, which charge 700 usd for setting up a "canadian presence" for you - an outrages amount, comparing to the standard 8 usd you pay for a .com.

does anyone have any experience in the subject? any hint would be great.

thanks,
f.

I understand how you feel. I'm a Canadian and found out I can't register .us domains. Maybe we can register for each other if that's allowed?

Is it really worth all the trouble? The only reason I've seen people registering .ca domains is that they can't get a reallycoolname.com, but they can get reallycoolname.ca

Just two cents.

In response to Shasan I think it depends on the site. But in general I disagree, I think having a .ca domain for a domain that wants to appear to be Canadian is a big advantage. I know when I'm going through a list of search returns, if I'm looking for a Canadian specific information, I will go first to the .ca returns...

It appears that the obvious solution would be to have a Canadian buy (and legally own) the domain and then you contract with them to provide the website. Probably need to make it clear in contract that you own the content and the trademark. (Insert usual IANAL boilerplate here)
