If I purchased a domain from my web host, eg mysite.com
Would I be right in saying that for a website hosted on microsoft's iis that the 'www.' prefix would point the user to the website part of the iis web server and the 'ftp.' prefix would point to the ftp part of the web server?

i.e. Once I purchased the domain 'mysite.com' i would not have to purchase anything else like ftp.mysite.com?

Hope someone can help.

Right-- you will not need to "buy a new domain" for each www.yourdomain.com ftp.yourdomain.com, etc.

How you setup those prefixes is a different story though-- you'll need to adjust your DNS service, most likely you got DNS service from your web space provider or perhaps purchased from the place that you got your domain name from.

Good luck!
