What is better for rankings?

All other factors the same - which gives more boost for ranking concerning searches for keyword, esp in Google?

Reason to ask: *.tv is the last TLD available with only keyword in domain. Segment is slightly competitive.

I think *.com might be better regarding users. But what is more effective regarding ranking?

Thanks for your input.

As the question seeming not so interesting for posters but being important to me I've put together what I've thought and found so far. Maybe that's a basis for some to share experiences and thoughts.

kw-info.com

Pro:

Many people tend to remember any *.com better than *.tv ("dot what?").

*.com might look more 'serious' than an obscure TLD like *.tv or *.nu.

Contra:

People have to remember kw-bla.TLD instead of just kw.TLD

kw.tv

Pro:

It's short - just kw.tld

Contra:

Obscure TLD, might be confused with *.com, too.

Not clear, but really important aspects:

G ranking better for just kw in domain as opposed to kw-bla?

Inbound Links with just kw better than those with kw-blah?

I tend to answer both with yes.

Some related threads from last 6 months (or so):

New TLD evaluation [webmasterworld.com]

kw.com vs. kw-blah.com [webmasterworld.com]

kw1.ws or kw1-blah.com? [webmasterworld.com]

.net vs. hyphenated .com [webmasterworld.com]

Psychological effects of the TLD [webmasterworld.com]

widget.nu [webmasterworld.com]

No clear outcome, though.

Anybody?

I've got a .nu domain, and to tell the truth I was very worried when I registered it, thinking it might hurt me in search rankings, would be too obscure to remember, etc.

However, it hasn't hurt me at all; I'm very happy with my search engine rankings, and as far as I can tell I've never lost out on anything or been stigmatized because of my domain name.

About the obscurity issue -- you can get around that by putting your domain name prominently all over your site (which, of course, you should do anyway). Once people get used to it, it won't seem strange anymore.

On the contrary, I've come to believe that having a "weird" domain name can actually help make your site more memorable. I think a .tv domain would be extremely desirable for a television-oriented site, and .info for an informational site. As you can see, my experiences with this have been quite positive.
