Domain name in "REDEMPTION PERIOD" problem

I registered a domain name with ISP 'A'.
11 months later, I needed to move to a different ISP and sucessfully transfered it to ISP 'B'.
I was under the impression that ISP 'A' had registered the name for 2 years (as is the norm), however, 1 month after they closed my account my domain suddenly returned to the nameservers of 'A' (i.e. the registrar) and entered the "REDEMPTION PERIOD" and now no longer points to my new webspace.
My question is... how do I get posession of my domain back, and point it to my new server at ISP 'B' (where my website is) as quickly as possible, and preferably without paying money to 'A'?

Bearing in mind that I left ISP 'A' becuase they are notoriously difficult to get in contact with (email and fax support only, no phone number mentioned anywhere) so sorting out a deal to get my name back maybe an ordeal.

Any ideas? Cheers in advance.

I am a bit muddled and i might be reading this wrong but you cant get it out of redemption till you pay for the renewal of the domain to the registrar "A".
