Hello.

I'm monitoring a domain name wich expired in august 2003. Some days ago, browsing NetSol's whois information, you can read registrar's data and '14-aug-2003' as expiration date.

But today, I read this:
---------------------------
Domain Name: XXXXXXXX.COM
Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, INC.
Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com
Referral URL: [networksolutions.com...]
Name Server: No nameserver
Status: REDEMPTIONPERIOD
Updated Date: 12-oct-2003
Creation Date: 15-aug-1999
Expiration Date: 14-aug-2004
-----------------------------

I thought that Redemption Period took 30 days (http://www.snapnames.com/deleteprocess.html), but NetSol's increased it 11 months, hasn't it?

Does anybody have any experience?

just ignore it.Netsol automatically renew the domain but it will still expire and it is not always 30 days, just mostly.

So will I be able to register it before 14-aug-2004?

The redemption period for .COM domains is (if I recall!) thirty days from the time the domain record was last updated - so given the record in your post was last updated on October 12th, the domain should become available around November 11th, although the original registrant can still renew it up until that date.

As Cabbie says, ignore the expiry date - it's the status and updated date that are key here.

My host (whom I trust) told me that REDEMPTIONPERIODs are sometiems arbitrary, and he's seen some lasting over 3 years...

I'm in a similar situation as salson. Basically, I should expect the domain to become available for registering at 30days from the 'updated' date?

This seems very arbitrary to me. For example, the domain I am watching expired on day 'x'. The 'Updated Date' is exactly one month and 11 days later than day 'x'. What gives? Can someone just keep updating this with the hopes of the old client paying a 'restore' fee?

Hmm, seems I should check beyond the first search result! ;-]
