Not using it, but I'm thinking about it. I assume you mean the service that allows you to protect your whois data from being seen? Sounds like a good idea with several advantages.

Actually no. I'm talking about their new "Total DNS Control" service that comes free now with every domain. It's supposed to let you manage DNS records (A, CNAME, MX, etc) in the domain's zone file.

These records are responsible for resolving host names into IP addresses. Typically the hosting company sets them up, which means you rely on their tech support any time you want to add a new domain or sub-domain.

I used zoneedit.com for awhile and loved it. Once their nameservers are propagated as authorities for your domain, any DNS changes you make are effective immediately. Doesn't seem to be the case with GoDaddy. Their nameservers still don't know about changes I made six hours ago.

coffeebean,

My domains are registered with godaddy and I was excited when I saw "New: FULL DNS control" on their front page.

However I didn't see it in my domain administration interface and on their Help/FAQ/Domains page, it says they offer DNS control with "turbo-charged hosting" only.

Do you have turbo-charged hosting? or how did you get to try this service? For one, or several domains? (I sent an e-mail to customer service but they haven't replied yet.)

I'm considering using ZoneEdit. Why are you not using it any more?

Any comments appreciated :-)

Johanna

I used zoneedit.com for awhile and loved it.

I too would like to ask why you are not using it anymore? Apart from the fact that we can't understand their billing system.

I heard back from godaddy's customer service. The option only shows up in the drop-down box if the domain name is parked or hosted with godaddy.

So, THAT'S why I didn't see it. I have to revert to "parking" the domain before making changes...

I recently tried this out on one of the domains I have registered with godaddy. It's pretty cool, actually. Saves having to set up a domain server...

Thanks, Richard Lowe
