last year i bought a domain name privately, its all ok and have received the certificate.

but it is about to expire, it was registered through uk2.net but i have no way of contacting them to transfer or renew the name, as i don't have an account login.

there seems to be no way to contact them from their site - plus it is pop up hell!

does anyone know how - sticky me if you do please - thanks.

or can i just request a transfer in another way, trouble is i'm inside the 60 days before renewal period which i believe prevents transfers, is this correct?

Two days ago I deleted an old sticky that had been sent to me regarding this. Sorry.

The basic process was to contact uk2 on three consecutive days with a CC to nominet. Then contact nominet saying that they will not respond (they don’t apparently) and get them to do the deed for you.

You may need to look into this a bit more deeply but that was the process that worked.

HTH a bit

UK2's lost password FAQ is here [help.uk2.net] and there's a general contact form at [help.uk2.net ] but response time varies incredibly. Last time I checked, they didn't offer telephone support, so the contact form is the only way to go unfortunately.

Out of interest, what type of domain is it?

Nominet now have an online tag change form. Pay £15 via credit card and you can take the tagholder out of the loop completely.

UK2 are a nightmare. They are one of these "virtual" companies that have no telephones and their customer support is non existent.

Simply go to [secure.nic.uk...] and request that Nominet retag your domain to the tag holder of your choice.

I'v also had probs contacting UK2.net I eventually got through by e-mailing Nominet and ccing UK2.

But if you ever want to go down and visit them , they are based in Docklands. Speak to em face to face :P

Have you actually visited them? I heard they had a couple of rooms in an office block and will refuse any unbooked visitors. Reception will not allow you to simply go up.

Not for .co.uk - you're thinking of a .com

Some UK registrars do in fact decline to transfer out UK domains for the first 60 days. This is not a registry imposed feature but an internal credit control issue. Some registrars do this to lessen the risk of a credit card chargeback because it become a lot harder to do after 60 days.

Nominet now will override a registrar's hold on a domain and transfer without their consent for a £15 fee. As most UK domain registars now charge less than £15 to register a .co.uk it is not worth even the most hardened credit card moaner's while to get their domain free with this technique because the Nominet retag fee is usually more than registration fee.
