Welcome to webmasterworld. Perhaps the registrant re-registered the domain since a year was added on. Most registrars will hold a domain for at least 30-60 days after the expiration date to give people ample opportunity to renew before releasing it to the public. If the registrant still doesn't do so and the domain is a popular name or has received a pretty decent amount of traffic, some registrars (or others) will grab it themselves to resell at a higher price.

If this is not the case here, I hate to tell you but Network Solutions is notorious for holding domains for up to six months after expiration.

PIR's site contains a detailed section on the redemption grace period for .ORG domains that can be viewed here [pir.org].

As for knowing when the domain will be available for re-registration :

...to calculate the date a deleted name will be available for registration, add 35 days to the "last updated on" date reflected in the WHOIS.

Taken literally, this means the domain won't drop until early September. On a different note, I'd ignore the extra year added to the expiry date.

I disagree with ritch about ignoring the extra year that's showing now. If this name is that important to you, then I recommend you contact NetSol or PIR and check whether it has been re-registered already.

There are rules and then there's the way things really work which is what I described. Let's say NetSol is following the rules to a T now. The domain expired in June. The record would have been updated on or about 23 June to park the domain. The record was then updated over a month afterwards with an extra year attached. Usually, when the expiration date is extended a year it means someone re-registered it. If it's that important to you, then contact one of the two to check it out.

Ritch is right on, ignore the extra year. The registry auto-renews domains for one year and when the domain deletes they credit the year back to the registrar. This is a normal thing and Ritch has it right. Wait for September.
