sub par technology?

I did alot of reading suggesting that SnapNames.com has the best service available for obtaining expired domain names. I signed up for the service and was waiting for a domain that had not been used for the past three years. No .net, .org, etc. had been taken either (i guess not a popluar domain). I followed the deletion process closely. When I checked this early this morning, some domain broker had purchased it and it is now for sale.

What is up with SnapNames technology? It seems to me that the only thing SnapNames is good for is for automatically registering expired domain names that *no one wants*. Quite disappointing given all the hype on the net.

I am looking for alternative recommendations if I must do this in the future.

I noticed that too, Snap Names is pretty much worthless.

I have used Snapnames many times for very competitive words and they have not missed once.
I think the trick is seeing who was the previous register of the name and seeing if they are linked to a snapback company.
Snapnames is affiliated with many of them but some like dotster have their own snapback service(namewinner) and although its all supposed to be a level playing field with verisign for some reason the previous register has an advantage of resecuring the name.

Thanks for the input. There is a definate advantage to the registrar affiliated with the snap service. Have I to do this again, I will make sure I sign up with that particular service.

Yes there is, "namewinner.co" is a great way to get so some names. Also, check out the "domain guru" for some great tools on finding some great names.
