Redemption Price change

at the registry level june 1st

The people with domains about to get deleted, if your status code is in the redemption grace period registrars wholesale prices are currently $85.00 per RESTORE command. Effective June 1, 2003 the wholesale price for registrars moves to $40.00 per RESTORE command. This just means that if you forget a domain and want to get it back, it just got cheaper.

Of course it remains to be seen how much some of the registrars will charge you (retail).

well, i have a client that this is happening to right now, and the web dev/host had to pay $150 (ransom) to "escalate" the situation of getting the domain released & transferred from a defunct off-shore wholesaler. He started this process in april, when the domain was set to expire on the 15th, and it still wasn't processed by May 23rd (site was still live) and then at some point friday, the domain switching caused it to go down - and it's been down all weekend! and we're hoping it will get resolved on tuesday, because the client obviously isn't too happy they are losing reservations to their resort over it.

this is also the first i've really heard of this situation, though the web dev. told me it's because the registry system has changed and tried to give me the synopsis of it - and i sort of get it, but now we just havve to console the client because there's nothing we can do about it.

if anyone can summarize or point me at a thread/article that describes this situation simply, I'd appreciate it, that way i can maybe help shift some 'blame' off the web dev.
