Domain Transfer for Newbie

Hi,

I have a site that's run by me but it is registered under a friend of mine name. I'm going to have it transfered, from the current domain-hosting company into another (dotster). The question is, while it is under transfering status, would my site's traffic go down or even perhaps the whole site go down? Would it be possible to have it transfered without interupting my daily traffic?

Thx.

Make sure that you put the site up on the new server as soon as the account is setup so it is there when the DNS has updated.

The site will go down temp because it can take between 24-48 hours for the DNS to update.

Bud,

You dont state whether its only the "domain" company you are transferring or also "hosting" of the website.

Normally when ownership or registrar changes, DNS settings are left alone, and should NOT make a difference.

thats unless you "are" changing hosts.

Transferring your domain to another Registrar won't affect the site itself in any form. If however you're changing your host too, this will need to be done carefully and before you actually initiate the transfer.

Make sure you make any nameserver amends beforehand - once the domain is transferred to the new Registrar it will be locked for a period of 15 days and during this time, no amendments to the domain record can be made. If you needed to change the nameservers to point to your new host during this time, you'd clearly be stuck and your site may become unavailable if your old nameservers no longer work.
