I've just come across a domain like this:

www-keyword.com

Never seen this before and it works without the dot after the www

Any clues?

I suppose the domain is:
http://www-keyword.com
and would work also with
http://www.www-keyword.com?

Yes its [www-keyword.com...]

I tried it with things like car and computer and it seems to work but not with www.www-keyword.com

Strange.

Just to clarify the reason I put it in the Google section was that I saw it in an ad when doing a search at Google.

Actually it's not strange at all. The www in this case is simply a part of the registered domain name.
Want one yourself? Go to your registrar and order
www-keywordofyourchoice.com.
It's the hyphen which makes all the difference :)

but why would you do it? it seems a true waste of time.

nobody thinks that - is . an in a confused manner types www-google.com

if they are confused, they'll do www-google-com and still be screwed

It is just a way to get a short name emphasizing the keyword. As a bonus you do get people searching (not entering a url) www keyword ...

Not a complete waste of time but not far from it IMO
