how to tell if your domain has value

Should I think about selling my domain?

I have an old domain that has a halve finished site on it that will most likely stay in the same condition until it expires.

It is a www.keyword1-keyword2-keyword3.com I bought it before yahoo starting spitting out google results. It does come out number 1 for its top keyword on yahoo canada.

I don't want it anymore should I try and sell it? How do I know if its even worth the 9 bucks I bought it for?

If you've had the domain for awhile, and it has some solid PR value, you might consider keeping the content fresh and use it as a means of helping some of your related sites.

number 1 for its top keyword on yahoo canada.

Just send emails to anyone that would find value in that Yahoo position or any other rankings you may have.

Ok thats simple enough - now why didn't I think of that.

Should I come up with a price or just say that I'm open to offers?

I have never been involded in selling or buying of domains except from a regular registar.

I don't want to sell it for $100 if its worth $200.

What kind of traffic is it seeing, KevinC? That will certainly be part of any value calculation.

contact the top 10 for that search term and invite them to a blind bid. that way you ensure the best price. dont expect it to be worth that much though!

Ya I doubt it is worth anything major - I might email a couple companies and if I don't get anything I'll just keep it.

Thanks for the info!

worth keeping until someone comes along who REALLY wants it. Then it will be worth something. I kept one for 3 years and had forgotten about it then, bingo! got a call and sold it for £900 $1350 You never know!

Tony_Perry, that can happen yes, but you could also renew the domain year after year and never have anyone contact you. It all depends on the domain and ANY domain is only worth what someone will pay for it, nothing more, nothing less.

Put it up for bid on eBay, with a reserve.

It used to be that domain names worth something if they had keywords in them.

Unless you have a fully developed system behind it, it really doesn't matter. Just take a look at some of the most successful web sites. They do not have a keyword in them that relates to the content - Amazon, eBay, Google, Yahoo, etc.

Hunter
the domain I sold only cost $30 every 2 years, so that's $15 a year. Hardly worth worring about!
