Domain Prices a Low.

I see all these companies selling domain names which are affiliates with registrars and other companies and their prices are always so high. Right now I'm paying around 8.00 a domain name for a years time for a standard .com, net, org.

Will these people higher their prices next year once they have so many million customers? The whole idea of offering transfer domains to a registrar at a lower price is a very smart idea, because the following year I am going to pay their normal price.

Well today I got notice that .biz and .us names through a registrar were going for 5 bucks a year for how every many years you want to register it for. Taking advantage of the domain names for a year is neat but your going to pay full price the next year around so it would be ideal to registrar for the full time.

Remember when NetSol was 70.00 for a domain name, their prices are still the highest but there are so many people out there with lower prices now. I'm happy with it, who has taken a hold of the .biz and .us domains and made something out of the site :) .Biz to me sounds so spammy but .us i see as a plus for those within the US.

EliteWeb... I believe most of these companies have learned their lessons on trying to raise prices. If you recall the Staples deal 3 years ago, through Register.com, they were offering $1.00 domains (for 1 year). I picked up more than 1,000 domains and then went to Register.com's discount division (namebargain) 10 months later and tried to renew them. They raised their prices from $9.95 to $12.95! just because they knew millions of domains would be expiring and were greedy.

I have never registered a domain with them since. I now pay $8.49 ea, and NameBargain is begging for business back down to $8.88 a piece. You just have to make sure that you renew early enough, otherwise some will lock you in at higher prices.

As far as the .biz and .us, I wouldn't pay a nickle for them! In my humble opinion, they are useless, and just another way for the registrars to make a buck. If you tell a person your domain is 'acme,' everybody assumes .COM is the ending. What happens is whoever owns the prefix.com will be the site visited.

The only reason I even pick up the .NETs to go with my .COMs, is for trademark reasons.

There are still 100's of thousands of great .COM domains out there, and I'm sticking with them.

PS: You have a good memory on the $70 at NetSol, but if you recall in the old days, they made you register for 2 years ($35/yr).

No so smart people like me still pay $25 a year for a new domain name. That is because my favorite web host's domain name registrar charges $25 a year.

Yeah - the tranferring an existing domain name to the web host is free - but I know it can be a headache. I tried it once and failed (changing primary DNS blah blah).

As long as there are business owners like me and web hosts like mine, domain name registrars that charge $25 a year will continue to survive.

Does anybody have a step by step instructions to transfer a domain name?

vibgyor79... unfortunately, different domain registrars have different policies and procedures to transfer. If you have control over the domain yourself (not your host provider), it's generally pretty easy if you still have the original email address you used when you registered the domain. (Most send a confirmation back to that address before transfering).

The whole process should be handled in a few days.
