How about a reversed domain name?

Will this work?

Do search engines penalize a reversed domain name? For example, instead of gnomebuying.com, its buyinggnomes. Could the latter be more successful in getting SE traffic than the former?

No penalty just for the domain reverse.

All other things being equal the results would be the same.

Also depends on typed in order of words.

that's the key. make sure the reverse is used by your searching audience before you bother.
